It is the second Armenian Evangelical Church to be established in Istanbul, on November 1, 1850. In the period between 1850-1905 the church used to be known as the Armenian Evangelical church of Langa, according to the neighborhood where it was first established. From 1854-1888 the congregation used to meet for worship services in a house in Langa, but when the place became too small and old for the growing number of the members, the meetings were held in a rented place on Gedik-Pasha street, to the time when the church council buys a land with the vision of building its permanent sanctuary. But the Ottoman imperial permission was delayed against all the hopes of the members.

History

The Armenian Evangelical Church of Keorkune was established in 1898. The present building of the church was built by the members of the church and it was completed in 1899 . The church established its school in 1898, and in the beginning of the twentieth century, it had about 80 students. In 1981 it was closed and united with the Armenian Evangelical Martyrs’ School of Kessab. In 1946 the church had 45 families. In 1947, that number decreased to 14 because 31 families immigrated to Armenia. Today, the church has 15 committed families.

Mission: The Armenian Evangelical Holy Trinity Church in Kessab-Syria understands mission in view of its active presence in the town of Kessab. Our current mission includes:

  1. Providing the necessary environment for spiritual vitality. The teaching and the proclamation of the Word of God.
  2. Social work. Helping those with financial difficulty.
  3. Empowering the youth of Kessab with skills in order that they may be active and better equipped in serving their environment and beyond.
  4. Our Vision is to do more in the above mentioned 3 areas and also to have facilities to make Christian social work a big part of our ministry.
